Asian Indoor Games 2017: 21 Medals for Pakistan

Pakistan managed to win one silver and one bronze medal to overall medal calculation of 17 to make it total 21 in 5th Asian and Martial Arts Games being played at City Olympic Complex Turkmenistan on Thursday.

Tremendous victory for Pakistan  

Pakistan grasped two silver and three bronze medals in jujitsu and one bronze medal in traditional wrestling. The duo of international Abu Hurara and Amaar grabbed silver medals by beating Tajikistan and then claiming the golden point when their fight with Thailand tangled on 80 points each. But later, lost the gold medal fight to host Turkmenistan.

The pair defeated turkeministani brothers Ahmad Tanriberdiyew and Yousaf Tanriberdyew. Shahzeb and Muhammad Rafique managed to get 45 points against 44.5 of strong Thailand duo, leaving a difference of 0.5. It proved to be a very critical match.

Both the players thanked Allah Almighty by kissing the ground after winning the first gold medal for Pakistan. After chatting with both the players, it turned out that they had been doing hard training at home and their efforts brought them a victorious day. They also added that after defeating Turkmenistan they are more optimistic now and they feel strong enough to defeat Thailand. In the mixed duo classic, Pakistan’s another pair of Shahbaz Nawaz Janjua and Rafique Siddique lost to Turkmenistan and Thailand and recorded victory against Tajikistan to grab a bronze medal.

Pakistan won two silver and three bronze medals in jujitsu and one bronze medal in wrestling. They won silver medal against Tajikistan, but unfortunately they lost the gold medal fight to host Turkmenistan.

Women of Pakistan

In women duo tournament, Sonia Manzoor and Komal Immanul won bronze medals with Thailand won the gold medal and Turkmenistan won silver medal respectively. Pakistan lost to Turkmenistan and Vietnam, and defeated its arch-rival India. In the women duo show, the same pair won the bronze medal whereas Thailand won the gold medal and Turkmenistan the silver medal. Following the traditional wrestling Ambreen Masih won bronze medal in 58kg weight while her sister Humaira lost but still it is considered a victory for both of them.

Chef de Mission Amjad Ali Khan was cordially received by Turkmenistanian Olympic officials. The Turkmen children chanted slogans: “Long lives Pakistan-Turkmenistan friendship”

There are 45 countries of Asia and 19 Oceana countries, as well as one refugee team challenging under the Olympic banner – a first for the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. The number of sports slated for the Ashgabat 2017 programme.

 

There are 351 medal events and a total of 1870 medals would be presented.
